The Thieves' Guild
The Thieves’ Guild is not actually a guild per se, but a loosely organized gang of cutthroats and burglars. There is no formal charter to sign, and no known individual at the forefront. Members of this guild often band together in secret places throughout Astoria – abandoned farms, mines or crypts, sewer tunnels, and caves. Each band of thieves is usually under the command of someone the group respects or fears out of some personal connection. Most individuals do not seek membership into this guild, since they are so secret. But it is common for some folks to be recruited; perhaps they are being watched by the guild during their own escapades. Thieves’ Guild groups are commonly referred to as burls and their morals and ethics range from virtuous (stealing from the rich and giving to the poor) to murderous cruelty (committing banditry and assassination).
